What Is Gentlelift?

As you age, your facial tissue becomes weakened and causes you to lose facial fat. The underlying support structure of your face becomes lax and ptotic, which causes sagging to occur. Sagging tends to occur in the cheeks, around the eyes, the brows, the jowls and neck. This can cause the face to be longer and older in appearance. Younger patients often suffer from cheek and brow ptosis.

Gentlelift is a less invasive procedure than the typical face lift. It can lift, contour and suspend the sagging tissues of the face and neck. The Gentlelift procedure can provide quick and relatively bloodless lifting for patients who may need only little to moderate rejuvenation. Gentlelift monofilament, polypropylene threads with cogs or "barbs," lift the underlying tissue and contour the face.

Gentlelift, along with the use of these monofilament threads and FeatherLift™ technology, was originally pioneered by Marlen A. Salamanidze, M.D. of the Clinic of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Moscow, Russia in 1999.

Threads have cogs or barbs and open up when implanted into the subcutaneous fat and tugged into place. When doing a FeatherLift™, the tissue caught in the cogs is suspended and lifted. The threads are carefully placed in predetermined areas to support and lift the face. Results of improvement are seen over time as the facial collagen encapsulates and bunches around the threads, causing even more lifting effects.

The Gentlelift procedure is considered to be much less invasive than the traditional mid-face, face and brow lifts and require less downtime. Gentlelift is also popular for those who wish to achieve subtle changes to delay the signs of aging and facial drooping.
